Occupy America on November 11th In Honor of Veterans

Let's Do It!
What started out as the Occupy Wall Street protest is making history. If everyone gets on board, this is history in the making. I suggest making November 11, 2012, an Occupy America protest. No one goes to school, work, any place of banking as it's time to shut the country down to get attention. Maybe, just maybe, the politicians and the rich might take notice. If you can't make it to a protest, help out a neighbor or a friend. Look at all the suffering going on with the 99%. Here's a list:
Banks and Banking Fees
Homelessness
Home Foreclosures
Personal Freedoms
The Economy
Jobs
Social Security
Bring the Troops Home
Global Political Policy
Starvation in America
Unfair Taxes
Immigration
Gun Control
Global Warming
Environment
I don’t know about you, but why do I have to pay banks to use my money? They make enough on interest alone to profit from us. Pay money to use my debit card? Are you kidding? Aren’t interest rates on using my money making you a profit?
There is a lot of problems with homelessness in this country, especially with Veterans. I signed the dotted line knowing that my death could happen. You have people like Lisa Willis Groves on a 48-state tour to bring awareness to plights of the Veterans. Serve your country and you get what?
Home foreclosures are the real thorns in America’s side. Take away people’s homes and then what? They become homeless or are forced to live with relatives in a crowded home.
Are our personal freedoms being encroached on? You bet. In the Occupy Oakland protests, our police hurt many people during a non-violent protest. Someone made the call that it may turn violent. We have the right to assemble and protest our government. You can bet Homeland Security is watching. The right to bear arms has come under attack. Freedom of speech, too.
The economy has especially made it hard for the real people of this country to survive. People lose their jobs, homes, and are either on the street or move to someplace smaller where they barely make ends meet.
The citizens of America want to work, let me repeat, want to work but there are few jobs in their specialties. The average American wants to live a good life, raise a family and work at something they are good at.
Social Security can be fixed if our politicians think really hard on it. Many people live solely on Social Security. It is not the way it was meant to be, but the problem is here and we need to solve it. Making the age limit higher is not the way to go considering that a good portion of people already have paid their maximum dollars into the program and the way it is going, will not receive their money until a later date. Reform is badly needed.
Bring the troops home. It is time to stop meddling in places where we should not belong. Fighting terrorism is a good thing, but occupying another country for a decade is not. Troops lose their lives in sake of our Foreign Policy. What is our Foreign Policy anyway? We need to revise it. Our global Foreign Policy is based on oil. What for? We have the biggest oil reserves in the Northern Western States that we have not even tapped.
Whether you turn a blind eye or not, there is starvation in this country. There are millions who live under the poverty line as measured by the state and national government. These people go without meals on a daily basis. What? People are starving in our country? We spend millions on feeding people in other nations. We can’t help those people without helping ourselves first.
Taxes are a source of contention. They do not seem fair when the 99% are suffering. Rich people have good lawyers who get them out of paying taxes. Corporations get tax breaks. And our Federal Government keeps on spending. It is out of control.
Legal immigration can be a good thing because the workers do jobs that most Americans do not want to do. They harvest our crops and do manual labor. Produce would not make it to the table if it was not for them. Illegal immigrants work the farms, too. But there is a problem with drug cartels moving into America by way of illegal immigrants. Bring the troops home to guard our borders. The Federal Government is suing states for issuing strong laws against illegal immigrants. There has to be a better way.
Gun control is also a national issue. For the law-abiding American citizen, it should not be a problem to carry a gun. But the people who claim more crime would result, I offer this: I have the right to defend myself. I have the right to hunt. I have the right to protect what I have.
Global warming is a hotspot in our nation right now. I believe that global warming and a natural change in the evolution of earth combined should be factored in when analyzing current weather trends. We also need to further promote natural energy such as solar and water power.
We can also take better care of environment. Recycle your trash. Do not pollute the water, especially big companies who think they can get away with it. Use water sparingly. Do not dump contaminants into the soil.
If we can have a non-violent, peaceful nation-wide strike on November 11, we would not only be honoring ourselves and to those who served our country without asking why. Think about it. It is your choice to participate or not. I ask that you consider Occupy America as an option.

"You bet. In the Occupy Oakland protests, our police hurt many people during a non-violent protest."
Wrong. The police advised folks to leave. Fair warning was given. Being non-violent doesn't give you the privelege to encroach on someone else's personal space, disrupt commerce, or flaunt the law.
"Rich people have good lawyers who get them out of paying taxes. "
The top 5% of income tax payers contribute 58% of the total income tax collected. That's totally unfair.

This class warfare needs to stop. No one in the United States is poor because someone else is rich.
A very interesting, well presented and well written hub. Thank you for sharing and I vote up.
Take care and have a wonderful day.
Eiddwen.
I am with you on this one. As long as Americans keep taking what this government is dishing out, nothing will ever change. Bless you for what you are doing and don't let naysayers discourage you!
I totally agree, Ketih, veterans benefits should be off-limits to spending cuts. It is utterly ridiculous to expect men and women to go to war and come home to dwindling veteran benefits. I think sometimes people forget we rely on volunteers these days. Great hub.

"I don’t know about you, but why do I have to pay banks to use my money?"
You don't. Put it in a jar under your bed. No one ever forced anyone to open a debit card account.
